Firstly, let’s celebrate the 80’s in style, unquestionably one of the best retro festivals around is ‘Lets Rock’. Earlham Park in Norwich is one of this year’s sites, ideal for staying on the Norfolk Coast. With Norwich only 35mins from the coast this is absolutely one of the best ways to celebrate your birthday. Big name acts like The Human League, Billy Ocean, Nick Heyward, and Nik Kershaw are set to headline. The festival takes place on 28^th May 2022 and is set to be a day full of 1980’s fun. It should be noted that ‘Lets Rock’ is a family friendly festival so absolutely perfect for bringing the whole family along to celebrate.

Pure Luxe

Whilst restrictions have started lifting, people are still reluctant to party like its 1982. With this in mind, why not take a ‘Best Friends Only Trip’. A huge party would be my absolute nightmare so the idea of taking a few select friends and partners away for a weekend sounds ideal. 30th Birthday Ideas.

We can’t believe the 90s was 30 years ago. The decade that brought us Beanie Babies, Friends, Google and The Spice Girls has had a resurgence in popularity recently. Pop Culture as we know it today emerged from the 90’s. Everyone suddenly became a ‘parent’ to their Tamagotchi or Furby, we all watched as The Mickey Mouse Club launched the career of some of todays biggest stars. Christina Aguilera, Ryan Gosling, Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears all launched their careers with the help of a famous mouse. Little did we realise that by the end of the decade we would see Britney, Christina and Justin all launch pop careers which are still going strong today.

Retro Movie Night

Unquestionably the cinema was a big draw for us in the 90’s. In contrast to the 80’s we saw a comeback of traditional Disney movies with hits such as Beauty and the Beast (’91), Aladdin (’92) and The Lion King (’94). Towards the end of the decade saw Pixar’s involvement with the release of Toy Story and Toy Story 2. Without a doubt technology moved at speed during the 90’s by the end of the decade we were all wowed as we watched realistic dinosaurs chase Jeff Goldblum, Sam Neill and Laura Dern through a tropical island.

Digital Age

Importantly the 1990’s were a decade of advance; some may say the start of the digital age. In contrast to today in the 90’s almost none of us had heard of the web, we didn’t have browsers, search engines, digital mobile networks, fully 3-d games or affordable laptops. Media still meant newspapers and news broadcasts, the concept of social media was still a pipe dream. Finally we ended the decade with one of the biggest non events of our time, Y2K. This terrifying end-of-millenium technological comeuppance faded into black as we all celebrated the start of a new millennium.

60th Birthday Ideas

Consider pairing up a relaxing break on a Woodland Park with some high-altitude extreme sports. Carlton Meres is located in Saxmundham, Suffolk. Live life to the max

This all makes for a great way to celebrate your 60^th. However, if you are not quite ready to don your slippers and want to experience a thrill like no other then book into UK Parachuting at Beccles Airfield. Just a 30-minute drive from Carlton Meres and you will find yourself stood on the runway waiting to board the plane and head up to 13,000 feet (approximately two miles high!) where you and your instructor will leave the plane and fall at about 120mph, descending to 5,000 feet in around 40 seconds.

Take the leap!

At this point your instructor will open the parachute and fly you safely back to earth! During the six minutes or so under the parachute you will enjoy breath-taking and unique views of the local area and beyond. During your visit you will receive training with your instructor and be provided with a jumpsuit to go over your clothes. Once back on terra firma book a table at one of the finest restaurants in Southwold. The Swan in Southwold has been around since 1345, rebuilt in 1659 after the Great Fire. Since then the Swan has been host to many famous faces, Winston Churchill being one of the most noted. Today you will find two of Southwold’s finest restaurants; The Still Room and the Tap Room. Head Chef Rory Whelan and his team serve up dishes championing local produce, with a coastal charm.

Our Recommendation

Without a doubt for a special occasion, we would recommend ‘The Still Room’. It is an elegant yet informal space, with private club ambiance, whilst still retaining the relaxed feel throughout the hotel. There are two private dining rooms and a cosy lounge available for tastings and events.
