UK Half Term Dates February

Half term dates are an important part of planning your schedule, especially when it comes to kids and family activities. But they can be hard to keep up with. That’s why we’ve compiled a guide of the half term dates for the United Kingdom in February. So you don’t have to worry about forgetting them ever again!

The UK has five different half terms during the month of February. Each area has slightly different dates, which can make it confusing to know when school is out and when you should plan activities or holidays. But don’t worry – we’ve got you covered!

The First Half Term

The first half term starts on Monday 8th February and ends on Friday 12th February 2021. This includes schools in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, but not Scotland as their mid-term break is later in the month (more on that below). There are also some local exceptions in England and Wales where schools may take their break earlier or later than this date range. You will need to check with your local education authority if this is applicable to you.

The Second Half Term

The second half term kicking off on Monday 15th February lasts until Friday 19th February 2021. Again, this applies to most schools in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. But some areas may differ so it’s best to double-check with your local education authority if unsure.

The Third Half Term

The third half term starts on Monday 22nd February until Friday 26th February 2021. This applies only to schools in Scotland as the other areas already had their mid-term break earlier in the month. Schools in England, Wales and Northern Ireland will now be back at school for two weeks before their Easter holidays start on Monday 8th March 2021 (though some areas may differ).

Across the UK, there are five separate half terms during the month of February. Each one slightly different depending on which area of the country you live in. So next time someone asks “when are school holidays?”. You can say “no problem – I have my handy guide right here!”

And then share this blog post with them! Don’t forget to always double-check with your local education authority if unsure about any dates or exceptions that apply to your area. Happy planning!

Go On An Adventure!

If you’re looking for some good old-fashioned family fun, then why not go on an adventure? Find a nearby forest or park and set up your own treasure hunt, complete with clues and riddles. Make sure there are plenty of prizes at the end. This will motivate them to follow your trail! If you don’t fancy walking through muddy fields, then head to your local beach or lake (weather permitting). Building sandcastles is never boring, plus it’s a great way to get the kids away from their screens for a few hours.

A Movie Marathon

Let’s be honest. Sometimes all we want to do is lie around in our PJs and watch movies all day long. And guess what? That doesn’t make us lazy parents! Now is the perfect opportunity to gather up some snacks, curl up on the sofa with a blanket. And catch up on all those films you have been meaning to watch since last year.

Choose some family favourites. Like Harry Potter or The Greatest Showman. As well as some new releases that you haven’t seen yet. Don’t forget to take regular breaks. Popcorn and hot chocolate are essential movie marathon snacks!

Get Creative

There’s no better time than school holidays to get creative with your family. Whether it’s writing stories, making crafts, or having a baking session in the kitchen, there are plenty of ways to get creative together. And who knows? Maybe one day your kids will look back fondly at all the amazing memories they created with you during half terms past.

Go Outdoors

Sure, it might be a bit chilly outside but that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy a spot of outdoor fun as a family. Wrap up warm and take a walk through your local park or woods – if you’re lucky you may even spot some wildlife along the way! Plus, getting outside and breathing in some fresh air is always good for both body and soul.

Have Fun Indoors

You don’t have to go outside to have fun as a family – there are plenty of activities you can do indoors too! Why not host an indoor picnic or game night? Or why not snuggle up on the sofa with blankets and hot chocolate while watching a movie? The possibilities are endless when it comes to having some family fun indoors!

February half term is a yearly occurrence, seemingly coming around quicker than ever these days! It’s that short and sweet break from school, just long enough for the kids to miss their teachers and the parents to realise they don’t quite know what to do with them.

February half term can be the perfect opportunity for trips and excursions both big and small, so have fun and make memories – but just make sure to come prepared. After all, knowing is half the battle – so pack plenty of snacks and layers!
