Homemade Ice Lollies

Summer is here again, and what better way to beat the scorching heat than with a refreshing ice lolly? Homemade ice lollies are not only easy to make, but they are also a healthier option compared to store-bought ones.

Choose your containers

The first step in making homemade ice lollies is to choose the container you will use. While there are specific ice lolly moulds available on the market, you can also use paper cups, plastic cups, or even popsicle sticks and plastic wrap.

Choose the right size depending on your preference and what you have in your kitchen.

Prepare your ingredients

The next step is to prepare your ingredients. The great thing about making homemade ice lollies is that you can customize them with your favorite fruits, juices, and even yogurt.

You can puree fresh fruits like strawberries, blueberries, and peaches, or use canned fruits like pineapples and mandarins. Mix them with some water, juice, or yogurt, and add some sugar or honey to sweeten the mixture.

Pour the mixture into the containers

Once you have prepared your mixture, it’s time to pour it into the containers. Fill them up to the top but make sure to leave some space for the ice lolly to expand as it freezes.

For a fancier look, you can add some chopped fruits or mint leaves to the mixture before pouring them into the containers.

Freeze the ice lollies

After pouring the mixture into the containers, it’s time to freeze them. Place them in the freezer for at least 4 hours or until the ice lollies are completely frozen.

To make sure that the ice lollies come out easily, run the mold or container under warm water for a few seconds.

Enjoy your homemade ice lollies

Finally, it’s time to indulge in your homemade ice lollies. Serve them to your family and friends, or enjoy them yourself as a refreshing summer treat. You can also experiment with different flavours and combinations to make your own signature ice lolly.

Dog Ice Lollies

Choose the Right Ingredients

When making ice lollies for dogs, it’s essential to use ingredients that are safe for them. Avoid ingredients like chocolate, milk, raisins, and grapes, as they can be toxic to dogs. Instead, use fruits and vegetables, like bananas, strawberries, blueberries, and sweet potatoes.

Also, consider adding some plain yogurt, broth, or water to give the lollies a smoother consistency. Remember, not all human foods are safe for dogs, so it’s always a good idea to check with your veterinarian before trying new dog-friendly ingredients.

Mix, Blend, and Freeze

Once you’ve gathered your ingredients, it’s time to mix and blend. You can use a blender, food processor, or hand mixer to create a smooth puree. Add some liquid to the mixture to ensure that it can be poured easily into the ice lolly molds.

Then, pour the mixture into the molds, and freeze it for a few hours. You can also use ice cube trays or muffin tins if you don’t have any special ice lolly molds.

Offer a Variety

Just like humans, dogs appreciate a variety of flavors. Experiment with different fruits and vegetables until you find your dog’s favorites. You can also add some diced meat, like chicken or beef, for an extra protein boost.

Freeze-dried liver, yogurt, or peanut butter are other options that can add flavor and nutrition to your dog’s lollies.

Serve and Store

When it’s time to enjoy the ice lollies, simply remove them from the molds and offer them to your dog. You can choose to serve them in a bowl or on a tray. Make sure to observe your dog while they eat the lollies to ensure that they don’t choke on any large pieces.

If you have any leftover lollies, store them in a plastic bag in the freezer for up to a month.
